Data is very useful and necessary when it comes to producing the most informed decision. We use data every moment we are making choices, we use past experiences, future projections, compare and contrast, every moment we are weighing information to make the best choice for ourselves. Businesses do the same thing, they look at how they can use past experience to provide a better future. However when we look at education its a different picture.
If we as educators could have data about our students at the beginning of the year to show us their past experiences and strengths and areas of growth we could begin on a path of focusing on what needs help and not designing blanket lesson plans for one size fits all. I think that if we had the chance to know what every student needs help with and how to focus in on that one aspect, as well as implementing blended learning with the data to provide a personal experience in education.
Data is important, it helps us to choose the most beneficial decision. Without data we are stuck starting from square one every September.
