A big learning I had was how big of a change this is for some schools to offer online testing for the entire school. I talked with teachers and administrators who seemed to still be learning how the process is going to work. This is going to be the second year that the district I am studying is going to participate, so they are hoping the solved all the issues from last year.
I learned how important it is for technology leaders to be able to communicate with the educators at the schools. The district purchased some supplies for the SBAC and they were not able to be used, the district bought the wrong appliance. While the mistake can be fixed with an adaptor it is something that can be avoided with one phone call or visit to a school site.
A big issue for a lot of schools and districts is the bandwidth. Having hundreds or thousands of students all online at the same time is making some districts really trying to beef up their networks in order to ensure testing goes smooth.
